The Ukrainian pianist Yevhen Gromov was born in 1973. He studied piano at the Lysenko Special Musical School (1987-91, Kyiv) and at the Ukrainian National Music Academy (1991-96, Kyiv). His repertoire includes works by Purcell, J. S. Bach, Haendel, Scarlatti, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Glinka, Wagner, Brahms, etc…
His repertoire has a special emphasis on music of the XX century including works by Scriabin, Debussy, Schönberg, Berg, Webern, Ravel, Bartok, Roslavets, Lourie, Revutsky, Lyatoshynsky, Prokofiev, Mosolov, Messiaen, Ustvolskaya, Boulez, Stockhausen, Denisov, Schnittke, Knaifel, Kurtág, etc...
He participated in a number of festivals: “Kyiv Music Fest”, “Two Days and Two Nights of New Music”, International Festival of contemporary music “Contrasts”, “International Youth Music Forum”, “Music Season Premiers”, “Vladimir & Regina Horowitz in memoriam” (Vox Populi Prize), “Die Kraft der Stille – Giya Kancheli in Basel”, “European Cultural Foundation – 50 years” (Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam), “Miedzynarodowe Dni Muzyki Kompozytorow Krakowskich”, etc...
He performed as a soloist with different ensembles and orchestras of Ukraine, amongst the others with the Kyiv National Symphony Orchestra & Odessa National Symphony Orchestra. He was the initiator of the series of piano concerts-epitaph: to the father V.P.Gromov (1995, Small Hall of the Ukrainian National Music Academy), to the composer Nikolai Karetnikov (1996, Large Hall of the Composer’s Union of Ukraine), to the poet Josef Brodsky (1997, Large Hall of the National Shevchenko University). Gromov performed piano works by Valentine Sylvestrov dedicated to the 60th anniversary of composer (1998, National Philharmony of Ukraine), piano works by Pierre Boulez dedicated to the 80th anniversary of composer (2005, Kyiv, Krakow, Rünenberg) and piano works by György Kurtág dedicated to the 80th anniversary of composer (2006, Kyiv).
Gromov has performed over 70 World and Ukrainian premiers, cooperates with many Ukrainian composers. He has recorded several CDs with music by Wagner, Schönberg, Berg, Webern, Revutsky, Hrabovsky, Godzyatsky, Sylvestrov, Huba, Stankovych, Solovkin, Zahortsev, Krutykov, Knaifel, Boulez (TNC Recording, USA).
