Bogodar Kotorovych was born in Poland and spent
his childhood and youth in Lviv (Ukraine). In 1969 he finished his
education in the Moscow State Conservatory where he studied under
Prof. Y. Yankelevich.
He was the Prize-winner of the International violin competitions
– George Enescu in Bucharest, Romania (1967) and "Premio Paganini"
in Genoa, Italy (1971).
Since 1967 Kotorovych has taught at Kyiv Conservatoire (now National
Academy of Music of Ukraine). Simultaneously he has given concerts
in Germany, Canada, Italy, Holland, France, South Korea, Australia,
Great Britain, Bulgaria, Russia and Denmark with great success.
Kotorovych has been a Jury member at international competitions
such as: "Premio Paganini" in Genoa, "Premio Rodolfo
Lipizer" in Gorizia, Carl Nielsen Competition in Odense, Wronski
Solo Violin Competition in Warsaw, Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow
and several others.
In 1985 he was awarded the Shevchenko State Prize of Ukraine –
the highest Ukrainian award.
In 1994 he was an invited Professor at the Conservatory of Sydney.
In 1995 he founded the International Competition for Young Violinists
in Kharkiv (Ukraine) which has already become a tradition among
Ukrainian young musicians.
In 1999, he held two concerts in Kyiv with the famous "Cannone",
the violin that belonged to Nicolo Paganini. These concerts, which
were held in the best halls of Kyiv, were a real triumph of the
Ukrainian Maestro. As a result of his activity in 1999-2000 Kotorovych
has twice received the prestigious prize "Person of the Year".
Since 1995 Bogodar Kotorovych has been the Artistic Director and
Chief Conductor of the State Chamber Ensemble "Kyiv Soloists".
He was also in the Jury of the inaugural Benjamin Britten International
Competition London 2004.
