  GABRIELE VIVIANI
baritone
   
 

Baritone Gabriele Viviani was born in Lucca, Italy. He studied music under Graziano Polidori with whom he continues to study. At the same time, he was a student of oboe and singing at the Conservatorio “L. Boccherini” in Lucca. There he studied with Marco Boccassini and Fiovanni Dagnino.

He has competed in numerous international competitions. He was the winner of the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari Mozart Competition for which he was given the roles of Don Giovanni and Figaro. He was also the winner of the Mascagni prize at the Cascina Lirica Competition, and was a special prize and scholarship winner at the Toti dal Monte Competition in Treviso. As a result of this, he attended a masterclass with the famed mezzo-soprano Regina Resnik and shortly after debuted as Valentin in Gounod’s Faust under the direction of Peter Maag.

Despite his young age, Viviani has been acclaimed for roles including Belcore in Elisir d’amore and Malatesta in Don Pasquale. He has also performed Marcello in La Boheme and Germont in Verdi’s La Traviata. He has performed the role of Enrico in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor in Rome, Palermo, and Tokyo. He went on to great success with his portrayal of Marcello at the Teatro Carlo Felice, Genoa. Most recently he received critical acclaim as Paolo in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra also in Genoa. Furthermore, he also sung Belcore at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Enrico at the Teatro Comunale of Cagliari.

Recently he has obtained a great success singing the role of Sharpeless in Madama Butterfly in Genoa and in Tokyo, as well as in Donizetti’s La Favorita.

His future engagements are: La Traviata and Don Carlo in Frankfurt, Traviata in Hamburg, a new production of La Boheme in San Francisco, Don Pasquale in Turin, Le Villi and Manon Lescaut in Genoa, Madama Butterfly at La Scala, Manon Lescaut in Rome. Also, he will sing Marcelo in La Boheme at the Arena of Verona.
